Today

FOR TODAY
Outside my window is a bright full moon, leaving a shadow on my window sill

I  am thinking...of trying this format for Tuesdays.  What do you think?

I am thankful for...antibiotics and pain meds after feeling horrible this weekend, and for the rest that I was able to get to restore me.

From the kitchen...not much is happening these days with my oven being out of commission for almost a month!  It’s supposed to be fixed tomorrow.  I do have a big pan of eggs on the stove though to make curried egg salad for my lunch tomorrow.

I am wearing...my “house dress”- which is most likely what I will say every Tuesday at this time with the only variation being if it’s the red one or the blue one!

I am creating...in my head.  Like always.  But I am I am I am going to make a tiny something tonight for my friend Charlotte, and on Friday I will be with my muse Beth and I know I will want to get back in the saddle after being with her.

I am going...to my sister’s this weekend and can’t wait to be with my family.

I am reading...Off Season by Anne Rivers Siddons and re-reading My Name is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok

I am hoping...to be able to prepare great things in my oven after tomorrow…

I am hearing...dogs snoring and people settling into sleep

Around the house...is a lot of dog hair.  I’ve been down for the count for a few days.  A FEW DAYS.  If you have pets, you understand the severity of that.

One of my favorite things...my old time potato masher I found at the thrift store with a red wooden handle. I’m about to “mash” eggs for egg salad with it.

A few plans for the rest of the week……..biggest and best is that lunch plan with Beth

Here is picture for thought I am sharing…..

Word Wall

I subscribe to a quote of the day via email, and somewhere along the line started printing ones that I like and taping them to the wall next to my desk at work.  The wall is slowly becoming covered.  Thought I would share some of my favorites.

Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting.  Elizabeth Bibesco

There are no traffic jams along the extra mile.  Roger Staubach

Age wrinkles the body. Quitting wrinkles the soul. Douglas Macarthur

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.  Mohandes Gandhi

Tact it the ability to make a person see lightening without letting him feel the bolt.  Oreand Battista

Most of us, swimming against the tide of trouble the world knows nothing about, need only a bit of praise or encouragement and we will make the goal.  Jerome Fleishman

And my personal favorite-

Who, being loved, is poor?  Oscar Wilde

Dance all night.....

I grew up going to Camp Loucon at least one week each summer and more if I could get away with it. There were a lot of great camp traditions that were in place before I ever started going there, and I loved to revisit the familiar each year. One of my favorite was a dance we did every night called the Salty Dog Rag. You could be just about anywhere around the camp and hear the needle drop onto the scratchy record from the dance hall and you dropped everything and ran there as quick as you could. Fast forward 40 years.........and my own kids go to Camp Loucon now, as often as they can, and one even hopes to work there this summer. And guess what? They still do the Salty Dog Rag. As I was about to age out of Camp Loucon, the SDR was being converted to a line dance at camp which I think was a good change- kept you from having to scurry up a partner to dance. But I did love to both dance and watch as the couples danced to it. I tried to find a video that showed it the way we did it, and was astounded at how many videos youtube had of this dance! This is basically the way we did it.

What the heck?

Wednesday Link Love

So, have you been LOVING the cara cara oranges?! I’m totally hooked. I’ll be sad when Kroger stops having them. And did a mango ever look any better?

I’ve thought of this quote all week, and of her tender article. I was so touched by her journaling from her recent trip to Africa.

I love every post on my friend Suzanne’s blog, but this was such a great tribute, followed by this.

Sorry, I just can’t stop it with the food on a stick theme….

A lovely free printable here.

Oh, the hundreds of these that my kids used to come home from the Easter egg hunt with. Now I HAVE to try this!

THESE!! Oh, I am swooning over these!!!!

I would live in any one of these, even the boarded up one, and think you would just rest better and feel happier if you lived in a turquoise house.

This baby quilt makes me smile.

I love these!

We really enjoyed this this week. My oven is still out and I’m trying out new crockpot recipes.

Challenged

The Real Work

It may be that when we no longer know what to do
we have come to our real work,

and that when we no longer know which way to go
we have come to our real journey.

The mind that is not baffled is not employed.

The impeded stream is the one that sings.

~ Wendell Berry ~

Today’s word that we are living into was challenged.

I brought this stack of books- books that have challenged me along the way and that have shaped me into the person I am now.

First Day of Spring!

First work day in the community garden - turning soil in the beds, digging out weeds, planting great stuff like peas and lettuce and broccoli and arugula.  Our garden is about 14 years old, and unique in this city in that it’s gardened communally rather than each person having a plot or bed.  Works for us, and has for all these years.   In the early years when we were younger and didn’t have kids and some of the other obligations we have now, it was a show piece.  We met and worked in it twice a week.   Like any good relationship, the appearances have dropped off a bit, but we love it all the more as it ages with us.  Such good things grow there like a whole bed of garlic, grapes and raspberries, plenty of beets,  basil enough for us all, and great friendships.  Many a joy or sorrow has been shared as we weeded or watered or planted seed.

And speaking of good friendships,  we celebrated that great gift tonight with some very special friends around a table of amazing Indian food.

Welcome Spring!  After months of hunkering down and turning up our collars, , how nice to celebrate the new and the green and the old and the true.
